Hookton Launches to Help Main Street Adapt to and Thrive in an AI World

Hookton today announced its formation as a permanent home for the software and service businesses that Main Street runs on. The firm acquires established, profitable companies serving specific trades and industries, and holds them indefinitely rather than preparing them for resale.

The company takes its name from Hookton Slough on Humboldt Bay in Northern California. A slough is a tidal channel: water moves through it constantly, the banks green over slowly, and the shape of the place holds for generations. It is a reasonable description of what Hookton is trying to build, and a deliberate contrast to a fund with a clock on it.

Hookton's thesis is that artificial intelligence will reach Main Street last and matter there most. The businesses that dispatch technicians, book appointments, run payroll for crews, and keep the shelves stocked are the ones least equipped to adopt new technology on their own, and the ones whose customers stand to gain the most when they do. Modern engineering and applied AI are expensive to hire for and hard to retain at the scale of a single small company. Hookton exists to supply them across a group of businesses that could not justify them alone.

The firm looks for companies with durable customer relationships, several years of operating history, and an owner thinking about what comes next. It does not pursue turnarounds, and it does not require a founder to leave. Teams, customers, and products carry forward after a transaction.

Hookton is actively reviewing opportunities and welcomes introductions from founders, business brokers, and intermediaries.
